Connecting your bank to Krosos lets it read account details and balances through Enable Banking. It does not give Krosos a bank-payment feature, and the connection does not automatically build a history of everything you have spent.
That distinction matters when you want one financial picture without another spreadsheet to update. Before connecting, it helps to separate three questions: what access you approve, what the app actually imports, and where the resulting data lives.
What you get, and what you do not
| Question | Krosos bank connection today |
|---|---|
| Can it bring in a bank balance? | Yes, for accessible accounts returned by the connection. You review how those accounts map to your assets. |
| Does it categorise card purchases? | No. This connection refreshes balances, not a household expense feed. |
| Does it initiate bank transfers? | No. Krosos uses the account-information flow and has no bank-payment route. |
| Do I register an app with Enable Banking? | Yes. The setup wizard uses your own registered application and its certificate. |
| Is every account at the bank automatically included? | No. The linked accounts and the access you approve determine what can appear. |
| Does disconnecting erase the balances already recorded? | No. Removing a connection and deleting recorded financial data are separate actions. |
A balance is a photograph, not a spending diary
Here is a deliberately simple example. Your current account shows €2,400 on Monday and €2,100 on Friday. The difference is €300. Those two figures alone cannot tell you whether you spent €300, moved €300 to savings, or received €1,700 and paid out €2,000.
All three produce the same ending balance. They tell different stories about your money.
Krosos's bank refresh updates the linked asset using a balance adjustment. It does not invent the missing transactions or label that €300 as groceries. The bank may also expose several balance types; the current integration prefers the closing booked balance when available, then expected balance, then another returned balance. Pending card payments can therefore help explain a difference from the number you see elsewhere.
This is useful for keeping your cash alongside investments, pensions, property and debts. If your main question is which spending category grew this month, a balance connection alone will not answer it. Keep transaction records separately rather than treating every change in cash as an expense or an investment return.
What you approve at the bank
Open banking is not one universal permission. Enable Banking documents separate account-information and payment flows. Its account-information API can expose account details, balances and transactions; an app using it does not necessarily import all three.
Krosos currently fetches account details and balances. Read the actual consent screen for the provider, selected accounts and access being requested. Do not assume the consent itself is limited to balances merely because that is what Krosos uses today.
Authentication follows the provider and bank's flow. Bank login details are not fields in Krosos's bank-connection form. The separate application ID and certificate used during setup identify your connection application; they are not your online-banking password.
Why there is a setup step first
Krosos asks you to register your own Enable Banking application. Its wizard generates a keypair and gives you a public certificate to register. The private key stays in Krosos's encrypted credential storage and signs requests from the application.
The bank setup guide walks through registration and account linking. Two details are worth getting right:
- Copy the return address shown by the wizard exactly. Desktop and hosted setups can use different addresses. A redirect error is a reason to check that value, not immediately generate another certificate.
- Link the accounts you want to use in Enable Banking, then connect the same bank in Krosos. An account that has not been made accessible will not appear just because another account at that bank works.
Enable Banking's current terms distinguish personal use of your own linked accounts from business or professional use. Check those terms for your situation; do not assume this setup grants access to a company's or someone else's accounts. There is no fixed setup-time promise here: registration, bank authentication and the accounts offered can vary.
What Krosos keeps
The connection needs more than an amount. Krosos retains the provider session reference and returned account information, such as account identifiers and holder details where supplied, so it can find the account again. Connection configuration and the private application credential use encrypted storage. The imported balance becomes part of your ledger.
Encryption at rest does not mean that a running hosted service cannot read the information it needs to operate. Hosted Krosos keeps a separate database file for each customer within a shared service. The desktop app keeps its ledger and application credential on your computer, while a bank refresh still communicates with Enable Banking. Local storage does not make an online bank connection offline. The security page explains that distinction.
Expiry, reconnection and stopping access
Access has an expiry; the bank and provider determine the applicable limits. Krosos requests a duration when opening the connection, but a universal promise that every bank will work uninterrupted for the same number of days would be misleading.
When removing a connection, Krosos removes its saved connection and attempts to revoke the provider session. That remote step can fail independently, for example during a network outage. Enable Banking says it closes the underlying bank consent where possible. If your purpose is to stop access, also verify the consent status with your bank or provider. Previously recorded balances are not erased by revoking future access.
You can explore Krosos before connecting a bank. The public demo shows the financial picture with example data. Decide whether that picture answers your question first, then connect the accounts that make maintaining it useful.
